3 Steps to Let Go of Perfectionism

Are you a perfectionist?

Does it serve you?

Or does it keep you feeling busy but not actually moving?

Spinning tires? Idling? In a holding pattern?

Perfectionism is rooted in fear and shame. It’s your brain’s technique to keep you frozen and idling.

It’s designed to protect you from:

Being Seen: Which takes these forms; Judgements, Criticisms, Impostor Syndrome, and Fear of Success.

Failure: Launching something to the sound of crickets (this is one of my fears around publishing my book.) The fear of making a mistake and the ramifications of that mistake. Waste of time, waste of resources, waste of money.

There is a massive difference between wanting to do your best, putting in the best effort you can, and making something perfect.

Effort is process-related, and perfect is outcome-related.

The most crucial part of any process is letting go. At some point, if you want to move forward with whatever it is you’re working on or towards, you have to let it go.

Perfectionism will never allow you to let it go; therefore, you never make genuine progress. You deny yourself joy.
