5 Life Lessons I Didn’t Know Before Going to Prison

My watch guy (I had a watch guy) was also Tom Brady’s watch guy.

I lived in a private gated community in CT with a mansion-sized clubhouse.

I had VIP status at some of the finest restaurants; multiple triple-digit wine bottles were the norm for a night out.

The salesperson in the shoe department of Saks 5th Avenue lit up when my ex-wife and I walked through the door.

I say none of this to brag.

Yes, I had and did those things.

However, it’s only one side of the equation.

It’s what you would see looking from the outside. But what would you see if you looked from the inside out?

What if you stepped into my shoes?

You would have seen a man who didn’t like his job but felt imprisoned by his job.

You would have seen a man who never felt worthy of his success, marriage, or material possessions.

You would have seen a man who had no idea he was enough and was chasing status-seeking materialism to be enough.

You would have seen a man filled with terror at the end of every single month, asking the same question 12 times per year,
