A Sneak Peek, What Didn’t Make It Into My Book?
What didn’t make it into my book?
I wrote about a million words to create the 52k that make up “Blank Canvas, How I Reinvented My Life After Prison.”
As Stephen King once said,
“Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings.”
That’s what I had to do, over and over.
Here’s a sneak peek at a chapter that didn’t make the final cut.
For a little context, I’ve been in prison for several months and work in the kitchen.

It’s a part of my punishment, and I deserve it.
Initially, it was a small protrusion; it looked funny, but nothing more.
Now my hernia looks like an extra large skin-colored egg sticking out of my lower abdomen.
It’s inflamed and hot to the touch, making me weak and dizzy.
I can make the pain go away; I know what I have to do; I just don’t want to do it.
I put it off until the last possible moment until the pain and dizziness overwhelm me to the point of potentially passing out.
