Get Out of Your Own Way

Have you ever said either of these?

“Why do I keep doing this?”

“How does this keep happening to me?”

If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, you’re sabotaging your efforts. You’re getting in your own way.

Self-sabotage is real, and it’s debilitating. It manifests in several different ways. You’re probably not even aware that you’re doing it.

Signs of Self-Sabotage*:

Perfectionism: Chasing the impossible. As Salvador Dali said, “Have no fear of perfection-you’ll never reach it.”

Sharing with People Who Don’t Support You: You know the people who support you no matter what. You also know the people who shoot everything down. When you share with the people who shoot everything down, you’re outsourcing the killing of your dreams.

Not Going all the Way: Your project is complete. You did it. And you don’t go all the way with it. That blog post you want to share, that novel you wrote, the business on the verge of launching. You don’t cross the threshold. You stay where you are.

Blaming Others: Anything that happens is always someone else’s fault. Sometimes it is. But always blaming others is undermining your own sense of self. It’s relinquishing your self-sovereignty and chipping away at your sense…
