How a Life of Fearful Joys is The Surest Path to Meaning and Fulfillment I Know
Enzo Ferrari called car racing,
“this life of fearful joys.”
I fell in love with this line when I first read it. It struck the center of my being, the place of profound truth and deep understanding.
This quote hits two-fold for me:
- A goal of mine is to learn how to race cars.
- This quote isn’t relegated to racing — Enzo’s words are the distilled essence of a well-lived life.
Complacency is the death of a rich and meaningful life.
It’s settling for breadcrumbs when the entire loaf is within your reach, but you don’t know how to grab it, and you’re afraid to try.
So your life evolves into a constant inner hunger for more.
This more you crave isn’t things, or status, or prestige.
You’ve tried that; hell, you doubled down on that strategy only to find yourself with a success-sized hole in your life.
Here’s the thing, nothing external will ever fill that void.
Your inner pull and drive for more can only be satiated by crafting experiences that provide meaning, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose.
