How to Navigate the Doubters

Starting something new or creating something from nothing is crazy.

It’s a monumental task. You feel overwhelmed and afraid of failure.

But you’re also excited. Like really excited. Energy flows through your veins.

In your excitement, you share with those closest to you. The book you’re going to write, the class you’re going to sign-up for, the business you want to launch, the app you want to create.

And you’re shot down. Hard. By a person you’re really close to and who you trust.

It sucks.

Sometimes they will flat out tell you,

“You can’t do that.”

But oftentimes, they’ll disguise it. Which can be worse, the message is still there, but now it’s opened up more of your own doubts and fears.

“Do you even know how to…”

“But you’ve never done X before.”

“Don’t you need X (degree, certification, approval from someone else) before you that?”

“Oh, will this be like the time you tried…”

“You’re cute.” or “That’s cute.”

“You’ve always been a dreamer.”
