How Vulnerability is A Currency of Freedom
“Courage is vulnerability. Vulnerability is courage. Like shadow and light, neither one can exist without the other.”
Wai Lan Yuen
Being vulnerable is perhaps the greatest act of courage we can engage in.
For when we are vulnerable, we’re open, and when we’re open, we’re exposed.
We’re exposed to what “might” happen.
Rejection. Judgment. Criticism. Death.
The fear of being fully vulnerable and exposed can feel like death itself will befall you if you dare speak a word.
We don’t want to be exposed; we don’t want to risk death.
We worked so hard to build walls around ourselves.
We can’t let anyone in. We can’t let anyone see what’s inside. We don’t even allow ourselves entirely in because we deny the parts of ourselves that make us feel uncomfortable and ashamed.
Mistakes from the past, thoughts we “shouldn’t” be having.
So it’s easier to stay within those walls and build them higher and higher to the point where we become prisoners of our minds.
