How You Can Step Out of The Shadow of Your Family Tree
All men stand in the shadow of their family tree.
Our father, his father, his father, all the way down the line, cast long shadows on our lives.
Behaviors, beliefs, conditioning, and fears are handed down through the generations like family heirlooms.
As we enter the second half of our lives, these heirlooms bubble to the surface.
We see that what we’ve been doing isn’t going to create the life we want to create.
We see that we’ve got to break free from old paradigms and forge a new path.
One way we can do that is to understand that the beliefs and fears we hold fall into two categories:
First, they aren’t our own; they’ve been handed down.
Second, they’ve been learned.
When we understand what has made us who we are, we can begin to change who we are.
Get clear on your beliefs and fears, and get them out of your head and onto paper.
Instead of buying them at face value like you have all these years, put them through a litmus test.
- Are your beliefs and fears true?
- How do you know they’re true if you believe they’re true?
