Leveraging Death To Make Better Decisions

There’s a shortness to life we pretend doesn’t exist, we forget, or flat-out ignore.

There are consequences to our decisions and choices we pretend don’t exist, we forget, or flat-out ignore.

What if, when we’re on the brink of a decision that we know goes against our better selves, we embrace our mortality and the uncertainty of our expiration date?

What if we envisioned the worst possible consequence of our decision and tied it to our mortality?

It would look something like this,

“I accept that I am going to die; I acknowledge that I don’t know when that will be.

Do I want what I am about to do to be the last thing I ever do, and is this the legacy I want to leave behind?”

This simple step shines a light on our decision-making process.

It allows us to step back and look for other options.

There’s a fun flip side to this:

Let’s say you’re about to decide to pursue an unfulfilled dream — something that scares you but that you know is massively essential to becoming who you want to be and creating the life you want to live.
