My Letter to a Friend About Fear

I had a conversation with a friend who was thinking of starting something new, carving their own way, stepping out of the status quo and into the extraordinary.

A sadness weighed on them; they weren’t lit up; they were enveloped in fear.

So I decided to write them a letter, and I want to share it with you because fear is far too prevalent in our lives and I hope it helps someone in its grasp.

Dear Adele,

I’ve been thinking about what you said the other day,

“I fear judgment by others for what I decide to do.”

The words affected your very being. The weight on your shoulders, the light gone from your eyes.

It saddened me to see someone so unique, so strong, brought down by fear.

Fear.

The destroyer of dreams. Preventing so many of us from pursuing our dreams. Dreams that we may have had since we were kids.

Now pushed into the recesses of our brain. Deemed implausible, impossible, infantile by our now jaded adult minds.

Fear.

The word itself carries weight all of its own. Say the word “fear” aloud or to yourself.
