One of The Most Significant Challenges Men Face in Their Second Half
“When a person can’t find a deep sense of meaning, they distract themselves with pleasure.”
Viktor E. Frankl
One of the most challenging paradoxes men will face:
When a man can’t find meaning in his work, he pursues an avenue he’s been taught to create meaning: Power.
The simplest form of power is money.
When money doesn’t provide the meaning he craves, he turns to the other avenue he’s been taught to create meaning: Pleasure.
He needs to give meaning to the success-sized abyss in his life.
Essentially when his will to meaning is throttled, he will gratify his instincts and drives.
Power and pleasure are short-term games.
A sense of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment is a long-term game.
To let go of the short-term and embrace the long-term, he must accept one of the most challenging paradoxes he will ever face.
He must confront what he runs from.
His success-sized abyss.
Because the answer he seeks is inside the emptiness, he feels.
