The Fulfillment Test: Are Your Choices Nourishing Your Soul or Leaving You Empty

A quick test to see if how you invest your time is serving your soul:

When you’re done binging on Netflix, drinking, taking drugs, having meaningless sex with a stranger, consuming porn, getting into a lengthy argument with a troll on Twitter, and endlessly scrolling social media, ask yourself:

Do you feel hollow, or do you feel full?

Are you replenished, or are you empty?

There’s nothing inherently wrong with any of the items I listed.

The issue arises when you feel the pull towards a calling, that thing you’re meant to do, that you desperately want to do but are terrified to do.

So, you use these to chase short-term gratification instead of doing the work toward long-term fulfillment and joy.

The short-term is so intoxicating because it’s so easy and provides micro-doses of dopamine: powerful combo, ease, and pleasure.

The only problem is quick highs fade quickly, and you’re back to chasing the dragon.

Short-term gratification will never substitute for long-term meaning, fulfillment, and joy.

That hole you feel?
