The Unlived Life Within You is Your Truest Self and Deepest Nature
“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.”
Henry David Thoreau
Thoreau’s words are a punch to the gut.
Anything that’s a punch to the gut is that way because it’s punching a truth within us.
For me, it’s a punch because I see it every day with my clients, and I lived it firsthand.
For my clients, it’s one of the reasons they come to me — and I applaud them for having the courage to seek help.
Because men, as a whole, don’t ask for help, they quite literally live in quiet desperation.
They think,
“It’s just the way it is.”
“Who am I to pursue my dreams?”
“I’m doing what I was told to do, so eventually, it will work out.”
They bury themselves deeper into work, deeper into chasing titles and money, deeper into the next new shiny object, and in some cases, deeper into an addiction.
Something, anything, to escape the quiet desperation.
What is that quiet desperation?
It’s the unlived life within them that is their truest selves and deepest nature.
