The Write Path: Learning to Prioritize Action Over the Perfect Writing Tool

I started writing Blank Canvas when I was in prison.

I used those black and white composition notebooks from high school and a cheap Bic pen.

When I was released to the halfway house, I used an iPhone because it was all I had.

When I went home, I used an iPad from 2012 because it was all I had.

I saved up and eventually bought a laptop, a total gamechanger, except for one thing:

I started chasing the “perfect” writing s/w to the detriment of actually writing.

When I find this magical software, then I can write.

What happened to a pen and paper being good enough?

I was fooling myself into thinking searching for writing software was making progress.

✅ What I learned:

Chasing the perfect sw/tool/hack/trick before taking action is the antithesis of action.

There’s no substitute for action.

I have to use what I have, not what I wish I had.

I gave up the search and got back to work, that’s what created Blank Canvas.

Not the perfect software.
