Why Chasing Status Will Always Leave You Feeling Empty
If you’re consumed by status-seeking materialism and still feel a success-sized hole in your life, perhaps it’s time to ask yourself,
“What’s the inner void I’m trying to fill?”
Do you believe that purchasing expensive designer labels, fancy cars, or exclusive memberships will make you feel a certain way?
If so, you’re infatuated with the idea of the thing and the story you’re making up around that thing — not the thing itself.
You believe that when you acquire “X,” you’ll feel a certain way.
Do you have a crystal ball? How can you know this?
If you’re chasing the next shiny object so you can feel a certain way, you’ve fallen into a trap:
Esteem chasing.
Esteem chasing is when you falsely believe that acquiring something outside of yourself will make you appear how you think you need to appear to the people around you.
It’s the idea that you’ll garner respect and admiration when you possess a particular thing.
It’s a terrible and a far too easy trap to fall into (I’ve been there).
