Why Do We Discount Simplicity When it’s So Elegant?
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
Leonardo da Vinci.
Simple is one of my favorite words.
Simplicity is elegant.
It’s deceiving.
How can something simple be so beautiful, so elegant, so good?
We’re conditioned that things need to be a certain way for them to have value.
There must be a certain level of blood, sweat, and tears. A certain amount of financial investment before something is worth our joy.
We almost feel guilty when we stop, slow down, and relish in a simple moment like viewing a sunrise or a sunset.
“Why is this bringing me so much joy?”
We feel crappy because it forces us to look at other areas of our life where we spent a ton of money or worked our asses off to get that fancy car or that promotion, and those felt good; hell, they may even have felt great.
But, in time, they fade.
Sunrises and sunsets fade as well.
They travel beyond the horizon, and someone somewhere else is in awe of their splendor.
But that feeling of the sunrise and sunset. The awe, the wonder, and the joy.
