Your Fears Want Attention? Give It To Them with Simple Exercise

For too long, I listened to the voice of Doubt and Fear. They ruled my life.

Fear is what landed me in Federal Prison.

I’ve since developed an exercise, and it completely transformed how I engage with the voice of Doubt and Fear.

I call it Spotlight.

I was journaling one morning, and the voice of Doubt and Fear were beating me up.

Bad. Saying awful things.

Then another voice appeared. It spoke from deep within. It spoke with confidence, saying only one word,

“Enough.”

This voice was unwilling to deal with Doubt and Fear any longer. I knew I had to capture the Fear, to shine a light on it.

Word for word, I transcribed the voice of Doubt and Fear, catching it in real-time.

“…this will never work, you’ve got no experience, you’re not worthy.”

As I wrote the Fear grew, it felt counterproductive to capture it,

“…am I adding fuel to the fire? Does writing it make it real?”

The voice that said “Enough” also said,

“No. See this through to the end, push through.”
