Your Soul Doesn’t Give a Shit About Your Job Title, Car, Clothes, or Money

Your soul doesn’t give a shit about your job title, car, clothes, or money.

Your ego does. It plays a mean little trick on you,

“When I…Then I…”

When I get that promotion, then I will be someone.

When I buy that new car, then I will impress people.

When I have this much money, then I will be happy.

How’s that work out for you?

Sure, these things feel great at the moment. But what happens when the moment is over? When the promotion comes with more responsibility? When the car is no longer new? When X amount of dollars is no longer enough?

It’s a fleeting high, one that leaves you empty and jonesing to feel the way you once felt.

So it’s onto the next target. The next shiny thing. Never grateful for what you have, always chasing.

All the while, you feel something deep inside that is longing for more. Something more profound than a promotion, car, or money.

Purpose and meaning. Fulfillment and abundance.

True fulfillment, joy, and happiness come from within. They come from doing things that make you come alive.

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of,

“I can’t spend time on this hobby because it won’t earn me money.”

“I can’t take that walk in the woods because I should be doing something that is going to move me forward.”

The promotions, the car, the money in the bank — I’m all for them. But not if you’re chasing them to make yourself feel whole.

What does it look like to be happy now? To escape the “When I….Then I…..” trap?

It’s not easy; it’s been drilled into your head for ages, but ask yourself, “How’s that worked for me?”

Be honest.

If the answer is “yes,” awesome do more of that.

If the answer is “no,” take a step back and examine what brings you fulfillment and joy.

You don’t have to leave your job and chase fulfillment — You’ll find yourself in the same trap you’re in now.

You have to make time for yourself to do the things that truly light you up and feed your soul.

Feed your soul something it does give a shit about, and watch what happens to the rest of your life.

You’ll be astounded.
